Valentine’s day comes but once in a year
The expectations run high;
Topping the show is a high bar to clear
I can only try.
Candy and flowers and candlelight dinner
puts the event to the test;
Being with you is what makes me a winner
Holding your hand does the rest.
But chocolate and roses and filet mignon
Can’t prove your love is the sine qua non;
It’s everyday things done as everyday fare
like taking the dog for a walk;
And laughing out loud at the jokes that we share
or having a serious talk.
You’re my everyday Valentine heart’s delight
The x to my every y;
That smile on your face is my favorite sight
like the blue that makes the sky.
When I’m pulling you close for some PDA
And the world begins to smile,
That’s when I’m thankful you chose to stay
and go the extra mile.
If I counted up every Valentine’s day
we danced in celebration,
The number, though large, would pale as they say
compared to one equation.
The love that you give and the love that you take
In the daily life we lead,
Has made this an everyday Valentine date
And filled my every need.
